Improving the blog - Bloggiesta is back

Recently I've made some changes to my wordpress blog. LJ.. I have paid for another year with it, but LJ seems to be stagnating - I'm not sure how many people find me here and it's a huge struggle because people seem to be leaving it all the time. I dunno. I am looking at options, but I love my LJ friends so I couldn't ever really leave it.

Also I've signed up for Bloggiesta in March:

"Bloggiesta is a three day event where participants will spend as much time as they can working on fixing all those pesky blog related tasks.... all those things that you think "some day I'm going to clean that up, or change that around, or add that thing!" Everyone will post a "to do" list, or goals they want to accomplish and then all of us will work together to get our lists done."

On my list:

  • putting my reviews up on Goodreads
  • updating my review index
  • Perhaps catch up with my reviews and other posts I wanted to post
  • Also hoping to host a challenge this time.

I hope it happens. Time management is tough for me because work is Craaaazy again.

Just scale back to a free account. You can now even edit comments on other blogs with a free account (like mine). Unless you want to add new feeds to the available ones I don't really see why you need to buy space on LJ - you can get free image hosting elsewhere and you can still have six different icons/avatars with a free account.

ETA: I use mediafire to host the images I want to insert into comments ^^

ETA2: A lot of my friends have dreamwidth as a back-up option or as their main blog, but they still mirror and answer comments here, and a lot of the people I follow (especially authors) still have their main blog here, so I don't actually see the exodus myself ^^.

I just noticed a lot of LJ blogs I follow with big strikethroughs through their names lately. Sad. It feels different here in terms of finding other users and being found. I must not be good at it because it feels like it's more difficult. Maybe I need to just cross post to communities more. I'm sooo lazy about doing that! :)

I think the big reason I pay is to not see the ads! I hate them!

*shifty eyes* pssst - if you brows with Firefox there's this nifty addon called Adblock Plus - and you never see adverts you don't want again ^^.

Hah, yes I think I have that. I just don't want ads on my blog for other people to see.

I kind of feel the same way about LJ. I'm way into my blogspot version more, but I don't exactly want to leave LJ.

*nod*. Exactly how I'm feeling. I like to check my LJ friends and whatnot, but I feel like if I stick around LJ, no one will *find* me. I think my issue is my subscription numbers and friends on LJ are in the decline, while on wordpress they are still rising. It also hurts me in terms of search engines because I have repeated content with two blogs. It's a pickle.

I am unlikely to leave it. I am just re-evaluating how I use it. Like.. there has to be a better way to be *found* by readers around here! I think maybe the way to go is cross-posting more, but ug, I feel so tired thinking about it. :P

What a cool idea! I'm not sure I'll be available to do it that weekend, but lord knows I need to take a weekend off and actually clean up WordPress!

I am always a fan of the events that are about doing things I would procrastinate on if it was just me doing it! :) I doubt I'll work on my blog ALL weekend, but I will work on it that weekend.
